Indian captain, Virat Kohli losing a toss on a flat batting track in Adelaide isn't a start he expected on tour.
For the first time Indian team has touched down the Australian shores with bowlers who can bowl genuine quick and consistent in 140k+.
David Warner had a different idea when he came out all guns blazing and was batting like he had no fear of loosing his wicket. Went into score an emotional 63 followed by a century and added a further 45 to his ton. The only false shot from him earners the debutante Karan Sharma his first test wicket.
When David Warner was on the crease he made life of the Indian bowlers miserable who looked clueless and didn't look to have any idea if they were trying to fix the line, length, bounce or were trying to extract the swing of the new ball. David Warner had thrown the kitchen sink at them literary within the first hour of the tour !!
By the time Virat Kholi wanted to hand over the ball to the only experienced bowler in the side the score was past 45/0 in about 5 overs.
Ishant came to the party and put breaks on on the scoring. He has matured immensely as a fast bowler in the past 12 months. And bowled in great areas all day. All he needs is a few wickets to become the leader of the pack.
Karan Sharma on debut bowled well when compared to Varun and Shami performance today.
I strongly believe if India see's it's strength in batting then they should have played an extra bowler if they are looking at taking 20 Australian wickets in each test.
Australians went on to score briskly and scorecard looked impressive until the departure of Chris Rogers and Shane Watson.
Positive from those wickets was that they were caught in slips. Goes to show the bowlers were bowling in right areas and got rewarded for it.
Michael Clarke came out to bat and scored his first emotional 50 of this summer. Had to retire due to pain in the back.
This gave Indians breathing space to bowl at a new batsman!!
By the end if days play Australia had amassed 354/6. With lots of batting to come from Steven Smith, Mitchell Johnson, Ryan Harris & Siddle. Give the start David Warner provided Australia were looking to post a score well past 550+ but wickets in the last session looked like a good come back for the Indian team. This effort saved themselves extra 100 runs ( of fielding and putting them back on board )
Remaining four days isn't about playing sessions it about winning little mind battles from the likes of Johnson, Harris, Siddle & Marsh along with part time bowlers and winning each session of the day tomorrow.
A bad session tomorrow with 2-3 quick wickets can cost Indian side the match.
Australian will be looking forward to take on the field today, play themselves in to post the best total they can 450+.
Followed by showing authority with the bowl. Which they have done in past 12 months with the trio of Mitch, Ryan & Siddle. Having Nathan Lyon, Steven Smith, Watson & Mitch Marsh to bowl will be a luxury to Australian Captain.
It's great to read that Indians aren't worried about Mitchell Johnson pace since they have faced him in the IPL and ODI Series. Facing 145k+ on a Indian track is different to facing 145k+ on Australian track as difference of millisecond can induce and edge to slips on Australian wickets.
This will be interesting day 2 of the test match. India will need good solid all round performance to turn this around. Given Adelaide is a wicket suited to Indian batsmen this could be the opportunity for young Indian Team to shine in alien conditions and do it while the masters have hung there boots and waiting to see the young talent to do it for the country !!
